Who We Are
2017 will be our twenty-fifth Camp. We started in 1993 with the brilliant idea of providing a summer workshop for piano students. We now offer seven fine arts courses and workshops plus an annual recital. Our courses are designed for fun and education for a wide range of interests and ages.
For more than two decades, CASSA has provided quality arts education with a high level of professional instruction within a completely unique, inter-disciplinary summer arts school. Whether students are only beginning their artistic education or are advanced in their studies, CASSA has something for everyone! CASSA is the summer school for the arts!
Initiated in 1993 by a small group of Calgary music teachers in collaboration with a local piano dealer and incorporated in 1996 as a non-profit society, the Calgary Arts Summer School Association (CASSA) has grown into a comprehensive summer arts program representing numerous artistic disciplines.
Since its inception, over 5000 students from age four through adult have participated in the diverse and innovative programs offered by CASSA in various years including Musical Theatre Showtime, Piano Camp, Adult Piano Camp, Improv Camp, PlayWriting Camp, Music, Drama, Movement & Art Camp, Jazz Connection, Music Theory Workshop, CASS Recital, and Piano Pedagogy Workshop.
While these programs tend to attract participants from Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, some come from the United States, and others from more distant regions — the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and South America.
CASSA is a registered charity and donations to CASSA are tax-deductible.
Calgary Arts Summer School Association seeks to provide an all-inclusive performing, literary and visual arts experience to individuals of all ages and levels. These creative camps, workshops and events will foster desire and develop potential in a non-competitive environment, which will enhance communication skills, friendships, collaboration, citizenship, academic development, confidence, and a life-long appreciation for the arts.
Participants feel empowered to:
- Develop their potential
- Be an appreciative audience
- Support the arts
Building Our Vision
CASS is the summer school for the arts!
Calgary Arts Summer School Association is a committed self-sufficient organization. To ensure the availability of its year-round innovative and exceptional programs, CASSA continually implements dynamic funding strategies, acknowledges its supporters and satisfies the needs of the community.
Unique Opportunities for Students
to Learn and Grow
CASSA's programs offer unique opportunities for students to learn and grow, to interact in a social setting, to be introduced to various disciplines of the arts, to enhance their skills, and to come away with a positive and fulfilling experience.
Participating instructors have the opportunity to interact with and learn from their immediate peers and gain greater insight into pedagogical theories and practices through working with guest clinicians.
Parents and members of the general public are able to experience the culmination of these collaborative efforts through attending recitals and open house events. CASSA strives to provide these programs at a cost that is non-prohibitive. Bursaries and Grants-in-Aid are available for students in financial need.
We Have Talented and Dedicated People!
CASSA is a member of Volunteer Canada. We rely on volunteers for most of our work. Without them it would be difficult; if not impossible to present workshops and projects of this calibre to students in our city. (Thanks Volunteers!) Because we cater to students of all ages (including very young students), we welcome volunteers for assistance in supervision and food preparation with our younger students. If you have some time to assist during the camps or even during the rest of year when we are organising camps; please contact Linda Kundert-Stoll at 403-271-0418 or use our email contact form.
